The top of the flange is mitered to a 22.5 angle to match a true octagon corner.

Shown is a standard 1 1/2 inch nail fin with 1 inch of vent coverage, banding the face trim as 2 1/2 inches.

The side view shows the vent to be 3 1/2 inches deep behind the flange.

This is commonly known as a 4 inch deep vent.

Screened with an aluminum screen.

But 1/2 inch wire mesh can be added for a better critter protection.

And still leaving around 300 square inches of net free air.
